TeamRado are hitting the road again, Friday the 14th of September will see us leaving from Calais to Rimini in 4 days via Basel, Lake Como & Cortina. This years route will entail many more mountain roads this year including the Stelvio Pass. Our steed for this year is another Audi 100 Quattro, but we have managed to find a Turbo this time, we loved last years car so much, we just had to have another. This year we will be driving back.

We have not been as organised as last year I'm afraid, so have only just set up our fundraising page. We are raising money for a very worthy charity this year, its the NACC (National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease) http://www.nacc.org.uk/ also known as "Inflammatory Bowel Disease". It's a disease that is amazing common but most people keep quiet about it. Little is known about its cause and there is no know cure at this time. Tim's VW Parts to the rescue!!!

Tony Stanley at www.stewartsigns.co.uk has kindly donated some vinyl for us to cut into the various shapes we need for the graphics for this years theme. Tony sorted us some amazing graphics last year, but we have decided to go DIY this year!! More in keeping with the Scally look!!

Popped the new relay in and it has killed the ABS light, hooraa. Also fixed the fog light by cleaning up the contacts. Just needs a new set of wiper blades. That must be the easiest fix list I have every had to complete for an MOT fail!

Had a quick go at polishing the bonnet, think the body work should clean up quite nicely. Next weekend is the big prep weekend, lots of servicing, cleaning, wiring all the extars in and doing the theme......

IT'S FAILED, not supprisingly, but no where near as bad as expected. Here is the list.... Rear Fog light not working. Needs new windscreen wipers. ABS light is on. Can't believe that is all that is wrong with it. The garage are spending 1/2 an hour having a look at the ABS for us. Hopefully its just one of the wheel sensors.

Scary Drive to the MOT station!

Well that was a scary drive!!!! From Verwood in Dorset to Chandlers Ford near Southampton, about 25 miles but I couldnt tell you for sure as the mileometer didnt work!! The rear suspension is making some crazy noises over cats eyes, but otherwise all seems pretty good for a car that hasnt really moved for 3 years. Waiting for the call now to see how badly it has failed!!

Found a very nice man close to work that sold refurbished starter motors, £35 and a working starting motor was ours. Fitted tonight and started the beast for the first time in 2007, can't believe we picked it up back in Nov, where did that 8 months go!!! Video of the momentous occasion......

Also sorted out some rubber today, 2 tyres were rescued from what is left of Brookesy's Corrado and 2 new tyres, managed to get a bargain, £80 for two BF Goodrich and they swapped the tyres over on the other wheels for free.

195-50-15 instead of the original balloon 205-60-15's, mucho better!

It wont start!!

We havent tried to start the Quattro since unloading it from the trailer after picking it up. So a bit of investigation work was carried out by Brookesy tonight, the starter motor is fubared! So the search is on for a new one or someone to recondition the old one. It was a bitch to remove, but got there after much banging and bashing!

Also removed all the wheels to get some new tyres fitted as the old ones are either flat or lacking in tread.

Hopefully we can get the old girl started and off to an MOT some time next week.......I think we could have a fair old list of failures!!!

Its water proof at long last

Brookesy was up early saturday morning getting ready for AutoGlaze to come round and fit the new windsreen. They did us a great deal again, £126.90 for a new screen fitted, the same price as last year.

Before AutoGlaze arrived Brookesy had to remove all the old bonding gunk from the rear side window that we had salvaged from the parts car, and remove all the gunk from the window surround. Sorted just in time for his arrival.

Stripping the Parts Car

It's Wednesday evening, it's 5 weeks to the off, it's about time TeamRado got off its arse and did something!! It's time to do some serious stripping!!

We have salvaged the windows we needed, the bumpers, the headlamps, the carpets, the rear seat base and few other bits and bobs to make the Quattro fit and well.

Getting the rear side window out was a mare, nearly two hours and a few rollies!

Parts Car Dragged Home

Winkle and I had a nice drive out in the country to pick up the parts car on saturday. We seem to be able to find amazing charaters to buy cars from. Tales of buying a fishing boat, filling the front with concrete and ramming oil tankers, all in the name of Green Peace! We think the guy lived in the caravan behind the huge mansion that you see in the pics, but he may have been the owner of the mansion with 5 arces in the middle of Ascot.....who knows.

We towed the Audi with Winkles huge truck on a solid pole, not stictly legal, but it worked well and got us back to PeteMate's place within a couple of hours.

The Car has all the parts we need to fix up the Quattro including Climate Control (even if the control panel looks like hifi from the 70's, very retro!

Parts Car purchased

So we need a few bits and bobs for the Quattro, basic things like windows and a rear seat! Tried various breakers but prices were to high for the spares we needed. Spied an Avant Auto going cheap on ebay so popped a last minute bid on ebay......got it for £52, just the ticket!

Pick it up next tuesday evening.

Hotel & Ferries Booked

Not been much Scally action going on for a while as work has been eating way to much time! But we have booked the ferries and the hotel in Calais.

www.norfolkline.com came up top trumps with a £51 return deal from Dover to Dunkerque.

Have booked the etap in Calais for the Thursday night, awaiting news on other hotels before we can book any.

3 of team picked up the new steed for 2007 this weekend. My father-in-law kindly lent us his Mondao complete with towbar, we also hired a huge trailer from a local garage....what a beast! I set off early from home to meet PeteMate and Winkle in Winchester for the drive upto Newbury. PeteMate drove so Winkle was camera man for the trip (checkout his handy work in the next post!!!!)

We arrived at Durran's (the seller) in good time. What a top chap, with many tales! He took us for a tour of his and his brothers many car projects, from what I can remember he had the following cars hidden away in various fields and barns, Maserati Bi turbo sallon, Austin Healy Replica, Rover P5, Saab 900 Turbo, Lada Niva, Audi 80 Sallon, Audi 80 Avant, Mk2 Golf GTI, Citreon powered beach buggy, 944 trackday car, 994 powered by a V8 Rover, couple of VW bay's, Damler Dart, various engines, a few boats and a number of trailers. I have a feeling the man can't refuse a project.... he may even have a disorder!!!! I'm sure I have missed a few.

With the tour over it was time to load up the Q, only just fitted on the trailer! The Mondie pulled well, with only a couple of traction problems when pulling out at T junctions. Weather was terrible on the way back, but with time slipping away and the trailer needing to be back for 12.30 we had to press on. No drama's to report and the car is safely on the drive waiting for us to begin its rejuvination.

Just back from the look at the new motor, yes she has 5 pots, yes she has a turbo, yes she is 4 wheel drive, yes its a big old estate car, yes its an Audi 100 Avant Quattro Turbo Intercooled peach!!! We loved B770 CMC so much we just had to have another!!!

This ones a little newer being a G reg, a lot less miles at 111k rather than 261k but hasnt had an easy life in the last year or so, it has been driven around a rugby field for the last year or so and the local vandals got to her, so she has a smashed windscreen, passenger window and passenger rear window, but the rest of her is as sound as a pound. Couldnt find any rot as the later 100's are fully zinc plated. Its got the later dash with loads of extra gauges and vents for Sonic to play with, he loves vents!!! And its got a TURBO..... we all said we loved B770 CMC but could have done with more power, here it is lads!

Now need to work out how to shift it from Newbury down to Dorset, anyone got a trailer that I could borrow???

Trying to find a new Audi, no success!

Whilst having a quick look on adtrader for a suitable replacement for our beloved Audi Avant Quattro, we found another one, exactly the same but red. Rang up to hear good stories of the car being owned by the present owner for the past 8 years with tales of good maintance in that time with many new parts, all sounding very sweet and rosey! So Pete and I set off for Axminster, just inside Devon on Thursday evening after work. Took ages to get to Axmister as the A35 is not the greatest road for a quick trip. Think we left work at 5.30ish and finally arrived just before 8.

Had a very quick look at the Audi before knocking on the door. She was a bit ropy compared to B770 CMC but worth a look. Knocked on the door to be greeted by a shortish, fatish, pony tailed scouser who was way to over friendly to begin with! We then endured a good half hour of the tails of his life story, from being an osteopath for Daily Thompson and the rest of the English athletics squad, being in a hit and run 11 years ago that broke his back in numerous places, tails of journey's in the Audi including a very detailed story of a 13.5 hour trip to somewhere on the east coast of England towing a Cat on a trailer. Loads of stories about cars that he owned including a Treser Audi.

By this time I was starting to get a bit annoyed, (I'm normally very laid back!) and started to make suggestions that we should have a look at the Audi. We finally managed to get out of the house, Pete did a great job of distracting him while I had a quick look round the car, It wasn’t bad really, but not as good as old B770 CMC, was kin of thinking that it would be ok but the man was still talking sh*t and really really getting on my nerves now…….so decided that we would be there for another couple of hours if we were going to buy it off him! I should point out that it was the day of my second wedding anniversary! So my wife was expecting me back pretty soon!! I couldn’t take the talking at anymore; we had to get out of there if my sanity was going to survive! So I told the man it wasn’t for us and tried to make excuses for why it wasn’t right, almost ended up in an argument because he wanted to know what was wrong with his car. His last words before we managed to get away was that his daughter had died on xmas eve, still not sure how that came into conversation, the man had sob story after sod story to tell. I think he was trying to get us on a guilt trip to buy the car!

Finally managed to get away but started to get worried that we would never get out of the town of Axmister! We made if back to my place in 55 minutes, driven by anger that the Pony tailed scouser had wasted a couple of hours of our lives! Google maps tells me that its 61.8 miles and that it would normally take 2 hours 8 mins to cover the journey, I think the Corrado got a bit of a canning that night.

Moral of the story, never trust a man with a pony tail. The hunt continues!!!!!!!
